Just minutes from the State Capital, Harrisburg, the borough of Mechanicsburg was named for a settlement of mechanics who repaired and made wagons and the suburbs continued growth was attributed to the Cumberland Valley Railroad. The town's motto is "A Good Place to Live," and it must be true, because Mechanicsburg has been attracting residents and visitors since 1807. Mechanicsburg is a history lover's dream town, peppered with old Pennsylvania Railroad sites including: The Stationmaster's House built in 1863, the Passenger Station erected in 1866 and the Freight Station built circa 1870.
